Foreword by the Headmaster

Founder: David Barbaud

It is, unfortunately, all too easy to see that the public education system is finding it harder and harder to achieve its objective. The disparate nature of classes, the rigidity of the system, the inability of teachers to apply the least sanction, and the total absence of any selection restricts pupils from achieving the high-standards of Knowledge required.

The new French national programmes are unpicking, little by little, what remains of Knowledge, leaving only a smaller and smaller net of understanding. It is an insult to the intelligence of each child that there is a levelling by the bottom.

The aim of the Scolaria project is two-fold: to allow pupils to acquire a real working method, in an atmosphere of calm concentration, whilst at the same time highlighting future opportunities. As such, Scolaria aims to train our future responsible, and bilingual, adults, by deepening the teaching of English (the language of globalisation) and Chinese (the language of future opportunities), whilst at the same time operating an exchange policy with the USA and China, a policy which is extremely beneficial for the social well-being of adolescents. Our principal objective is to offer our pupils a near native oral English and Chinese. As such, during Middle School, as part of the linguistics course, each pupil will travel twice to San Francisco and twice to Beijing, immersed in local families.

It is also essential to provide them with a solid grounding in general culture. The history of art, music and civilisations are there to perfect their understanding of the world around us, whilst highlighting the history of Europe and France. Sport is not simply an “add-on”. Tennis, Fencing and Rugby will all be played at Scolaria. However, a certain standard will be required for Middle School. As such, from September 2011, a Lower School, at all levels, will be opened. Upon entering the Middle School, opening in 2012, your child will have the choice of three courses: Linguistic (English and Chinese as first languages), Classic (Latin or artistic courses from the 4ème), and finally Scientific (extra Maths and Physics from the 6ème onwards, with Chinese or German from 4ème onwards).

Those pupils who do not reach the standard of the entry examination for September 2012 can be registered within the establishment as part of a catch-up class, allowing them to complete the gaps in their education and thereby able to tackle the curriculum with a higher success rate.

At the same time as the opening of the Middle School, we will be welcoming pupils for the Seconde classes of the future High School. Your children will be able to choose between a 4 year course (with a catch-up class followed by three years with different options), or a 3 year course where they have obtained at least a très bien grade at the Brevet or equivalent.

Those pupils who do not meet the required standard for entry in 2012 will be able to register as part of a catch-up class, allowing them to complete the gaps in their education and thereby able to tackle the curriculum with a higher success rate.

We select those teachers which are the most qualified and the most able to teach your children, with the aim of individual success for each child. They will be monitored from the first to the last day, and everything will be made available in order to ensure that individual success.

Study time in the evenings is an integral part of the school timetable, and a further strong point of our school. Pupils are supervised in small groups, dependant on ability, in order to learn their lessons and to do their homework.

* To simplify things, and without characterising them, Maths in Seconde will no longer be deductive(no more geometry, algebra etc.) and will essentially be based on the use of computers. Scientific culture will disappear from the French educational landscape. Not at Scolaria.
